We had a great day shooting senior photos for Mckenzie. She is a wonderful young woman, big in to track. Unfortunately the weather here is very cold and we were unable to get outside, so we spent our time in the studio. Our theme was simple with creative lighting. For her track pictures we decided to do something a little different and went for a very moody and contrasty image. I am very happy with the results. Till now I haven't really liked shooting in the studio, this photoshoot changed my mind. I love shooting outdoors but I'm really liking the shots we are getting in the studio.

Last day on vacation
Roar!!! |
We then spent our last day in Billings with my wife's grandparents. They are both in their upper 80's but still very healthy. We got there in the late afternoon. As we talked in there living room her grandfather and I began talking about cars. He has a couple of old Studebakers in his garage that he is very proud of. On is from the 20's and the other is from the 40's both still work and are in great condition. I was looking outside at the late day sun and decided that we should do a photoshoot. Grandpa thought it was a good idea and started to warm up the car. We picked a location close to their house as it was getting late and we only had 30 minutes or so before the sun was going to set. I grabbed my gear and set up the lights. The sky became brilliant with orange yellow and red. I think at first grandpa thought I was nuts but after showing him what I was working on and he got excited. The sun went down and we wrapped up the shoot. I put the pics in the computer and stayed up late editing. In the morning he saw the results and was elated. I've wanted to photograph his cars for quite a while now and it felt good to get one off the list.
This was a good finish to a great vacation. The photos below are the results of the shoot. Enjoy

Bozeman
I just got back from taking the family to Bozeman, Montana. We were visiting relatives and spending the new year holiday. I grew up in Bozeman but have been away for almost 10 years. It always feels good to get back to the mountains. The image below was shot in Highlight Canyon. Growing up I spent a lot of time on these trails but never really appreciated the grandur. Enjoy

Hiking in Highlight Canyon
I went hiking again in the Highlight Canyon. I began my day on the mountain at 9:00am. The weather was beautiful, clear skies and almost 50 degrees. With 30 pounds of photography gear on my back I started up the trail. For those who don't known me I come from an elevation of around 1600 feet above sea level. The trail I decided to hike was at 8000 feet above sea level. With in 30 minutes of my hike I started to feel the lack of oxygen. I hiked for about 5 hours, traveling miles on foot. Packed but soft snow made quick travel difficult. The landscape was amazing however with dense forests, flowing streams, and the occasional frozen waterfall dotting the landscape. I enjoyed my vacation in Montana. I've been gone for almost 10 years now but it still feels like home.
